Our Domestic Green Deal Advisor (GDA) course
The Energy Advice Training Consortium have been awarded the 2nd round of Asset Skills funding for domestic GDA training in the West Midlands and the South West. We will be running further courses starting June 27th.
The Domestic GDA course for existing Domestic Energy Assessors normally consists of,
3 face to face training days,
1 assessment day,
Online modules,
and an online portfolio system.
Asset Skills recommend a total of 110 hours to complete the course but people experienced in the field may be able to complete in less time than this.
Day 1 is an introduction to the Green Deal and Energy Company Obligation (ECO) schemes plus a session on giving energy advice.
Day 2 concentrates on the Green Deal Occupancy Assessment
Day 3 deals with measures allowable under the Green Deal and ECO, explaining Green Deal Advice Reports and issues arising from the learners' work to date.
Day 1 and 2 are normally a week apart and Day 3 is two or three weeks after Day 2. This is to allow the learner to carry out some of the portfolio work before Days 2 and 3. The assessment day is normally about a month after Day 3.
The portfolio consists of at least 3 sample Green Deal Advice Reports plus some method statements and explanatory letters etc.
The assessment day includes a role play around collecting the data required from a client and explaining a Green Deal Report. Those wanting to go through City and Guilds will also need to undertake an exam, partly multiple-choice, part short written answers. Those going through ABBE do not have an exam but will need to do some extra portfolio work.

"The Green Deal Advisor Course is intensive so it was good to have both face to face training at a local venue and distance learning. The trainers and assessors are approachable, experienced and helpful and the on line information with links has helped me set up a useful knowledge base. Thank you for all for your help."
